Past events and Announcements: Update for the New Year
Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a relaxing summer. My wife and I were able to visit a few cities in Europe, followed by a family reunion cruise to Eastern US/Canada. It is always gratifying to explore new places and learn about different cultures. As enjoyable as it was, I am glad to be back in the Bay and am fully energized to begin another academic year. So much has happened with Acorn Tutoring this year! Last Spring, we rolled out our brand new website,AcornTutoring.com. We also threw a successful event at Acorn’s beautiful new office space in the heart of downtown Berkeley. What a wonderful mix of people, food, and good vibes! We were lucky enough to have my daughter, Ariel, there to dole out all sorts of free advice on navigating the college admissions process based on her stint working on the Stanford Admissions committee, and subsequent initiative to continue helping students with essay-writing and strategy through her own company, Golden Ticket Admissions. You can expect that I will be having even more informative and entertaining events in the coming year--keep an eye out for them! By the way, if you like our services and/or had fun at our event, we would LOVE a shout out from you on Yelp,Facebook, or the Berkeley Parents Network...in fact, why not hit up all three!? :-) If you or someone you know could benefit from the services we offer at Acorn Tutoring, we would love to hear from you. We recommend reserving your time slot soon though, since the best ones are being snatched up quickly!! Best, Paul Gee Free Fall Speaker Series: Acorn Talks! Come hear experts Nancy Chin and John Hankey speak about conquering test anxiety, mastering organizational skills, and cultivating the right mindset and action plan for success. Acorn Partner Nancy Chin, Founder of Step by Step for Academic Success, works with children and teens to set up and follow clear, manageable schedules and routines, along with explicitly defining goals and expectations. Her well of expertise stems from a decade working in schools and with students who have been clinically diagnosed with learning disorders such as ADD/ADHD, NLD, dyslexia, and executive function disorder. Nancy continues to cater to this under-represented group of highly intelligent yet struggling youth to help them realize their full potential. John Hankey, Acorn’s academic coach and meditation instructor, will share valuable insights into how a mindfulness-based approach can help students overcome test anxiety. A certified hypnotherapist and master practitioner of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), John became an academic coach and meditation instructor in 2010. After working with John, students report feeling calm, relaxed and focused while taking tests and in social situations.
